Education at Kaipatiki
Environment Centre
Environmental education is an
integral part of the Kaipatiki Project's work.
Kaipatiki offers a range of high quality adult courses, support for
schools and information on a broad range of environmental topics, for adults and children.
Our objective is to provide people with the knowledge and tools they need
to live sustainably.
Education at the Kaipatiki Project Environment Centre is very hands-on with
students spending time outdoors and in the education centre. Make sure you
check out the "What's on at Kaipatiki" page.
Free Training For Community Planting Co-ordinators
Kaipatiki Project is teaming up with Okahu Rakau, native bush and plant specialists based at Orakei Marae in Auckland, to offer a limited number of participants hands-on training aimed at people who want to gain experience managing planting days as a paid job, as a volunteer co-ordinator, or to kick-start a local planting project of their own.
The programme will run over 4 months (23 May - 12 Sept), a total of 12 community planting days, across 3 cities (North Shore, Auckland & Waitakere) - and approx 17,000 plants will go back in the ground too.
Participants will learn about promoting and hosting a community event, site preparation, native plant identification and health and safety – in return they must attend a minimum of eight of the twelve planting day options. These will be running at Eskdale Reserve Network, Birkdale (North Shore), Whenua Rangatira-Bastion Point (Auckland) and Project Twin Streams, Opanuku (Waitakere).
Anyone interested in registering or finding out more should contact Charmaine Wiapo on (09) 482 1172 or cwiapo@ihug.co.nz.

Read our 2009 School Programmes Environmental Education brochure to find out what we can do for your school.
We are currently developing a programme for Kindergartens.
All our programmes are interactive, hands-on sessions.
Programmes can be held at your school, the centre or an outdoors location (eg mangrove).
Cost is $2 per child (+gst and fuel). There is an alternative ecological payment option which can be discussed with the education coordinator.
