Our Goals
The Kaipatiki Project vision is “Inspiring communities to live sustainably”.
The main objectives of the project are:
> To restore the natural ecology of the Kaipatiki Creek and native forest margins.
> To raise community awareness of ecology and environmental sustainability.
The Kaipatiki Project works with the local community and North Shore City Council within the Kaipatiki Creek catchment to restore and enhance the ecology of the creek and forest margins by:
Eradicating plant and animal pests,
Encouraging natural regeneration,
Native riparian planting using eco-sourced seeds,
| Monitoring water quality in streams. |
We take an active role in raising peoples' awareness of the environment and the need for restoration by:
Educating children about their natural heritage, both within the school and in the field,
Teaching adults how to care for the environment and live more sustainably.
As our restoration work in the Witheford Scenic Reserve begins to wind down we look forward to helping local communities with restoration of other natural heritage areas.
Our objectives are to:
Restore the Kaipatiki Stream environs to a healthy state and secure on-going maintenance support,
Participate in the development of a regionally significant education centre,
Assist restoration of other areas of Auckland,
Be an advocate for the environment.
Our Values and Beliefs are:
Development and building of the community goes hand in hand with ecological restoration.
Act sustainably in every area of operations.
Practice responsibility and ownership of the local environment.
Work holistically.
| A healthy environment is necessary for a healthy community. |
