Welcome to our Pipiri - June Newsletter. Another name for June is Hune. Pipiri also means 'cling together' due to the cold and the frost.
Ka puta Matariki ka rere Whānui.
Ko te tohu tēnā o te tau e!
Matariki re-appears, Whānui starts its flight.
Being the sign of the new year!
Twinkling in the winter sky, Matariki (the Pleiades) signals the Māori New Year. Traditionally, it was a time for remembering the dead, and celebrating new life. Is a great time to plant trees and winter veges. It's also time to begin thinking about the next season and the crops you might want to grow and harvest.
Happy New Year!
